Daytrip Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring 2025
General Information
Kinabalu Park was created in 1964 as one of Malaysia’s first national parks. In 2000, it became Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site, given by UNESCO for its global importance. The park is home to over 4,500 types of plants and animals. Also, it includes 326 bird species, about 100 types of mammals, and over 110 land snails.
Poring is a small tourist area in Sabah, about 40 km southeast of the Kinabalu Park Headquarters. For your reference, Poring is in a lowland rainforest, which is different from the higher altitudes of Kinabalu Park.
On this trip, we will visit both Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Springs. It’s the perfect way to enjoy nature and relax in just one day. Besides, the weather in Kinabalu Park is cooler than in Kota Kinabalu city. This makes it a refreshing change.
First we begin trip to Kinabalu Park, you will visit the beautiful Botanical Garden. Here, you can see many special plants like orchids, ferns, rhododendrons, pitcher plants, and the kerosene tree. Some of these amazing plants are only found in Borneo. It is a great moment to learn more about local nature and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Next, at around 11:00 AM, a park ranger will meet you. The ranger will give a short talk about the forest’s Wildlife and plants. You will learn about the rare animals and trees that live only on the island of Borneo. This is a very good time for Nature learning and simple SeaVentures in the forest.
After that, you will take a short jungle walk near the Park Headquarters. This walk takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. As you walk, enjoy the cool air and see the Montane Forest up close.
Next, we will travel to Poring Hot Springs, about 42 km away. “Poring ” means bamboo in the local language. On the way, you’ll pass hills and forests full of Nature Wildlife. When arrive, we will walk through a forest with wild fruit trees, giant bamboo, and ginger plants with flowers you can eat. We will enjoy the Canopy Walkway a bridge high above the trees, about 40 meters above ground. From here, you can see the forest from the top. Besides, it is a safe bridge high in the trees. Then, you can walk slowly and see the green forest from above. But if you are afraid of heights, you may skip this part.
If you want to explore more, you can also visit the Butterfly Farm or take a short jungle trail.
