2 Day 1 Night Tour Borneo : Sepilok Orangutan & Kinabatangan river cruise 2025

For your reference, the 2D1N Sepilok and Kinabatangan River Sandakan tour starts with a visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. The Sabah Government built and completed the center between 1961 and 1964. The center’s mission is to help orphaned orangutans return to the wild. Upon arrival, each orangutan receives a health check and goes through a quarantine period. Afterward, they move to the ‘Nursery,’ where they learn essential jungle survival skills. Later, they transition to the ‘Outdoor Nursery’ for more freedom.

As a result, many orangutans successfully adapt to the wild and integrate into their natural habitat. The center is open every day from 9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm. On Fridays, the hours are extended from 9 am to 11 am and 2 pm to 4 pm.

Additionally, your 2D1N Sepilok and Kinabatangan River Sandakan tour takes you to Kinabatangan River. Here, you can witness the rich wildlife and stunning landscapes of Borneo. The tour offers a unique chance to see orangutans and other animals in their natural environment.

DAY 1~ Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

First, our guide will meet you at Sandakan Airport or your hotel. Then, we will take you to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for the 10:00 AM feeding session. Please remember that visitors cannot touch the orangutans, so kindly respect this rule. Afterward, we will watch a 20-minute video about the nursery at 11:00 AM. Then, we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.

After lunch, we will drive for about 1 hour and 45 minutes to Bilit, Kinabatangan. Once we arrive, we will take you by boat to your lodge, just a 3-minute ride away. You will have some free time before the 4:00 PM boat cruise. On the cruise, you can look for wildlife along the Kinabatangan River.

In the evening, we will serve dinner with local food at the lodge. You can join a night jungle walk or relax at the restaurant. This is part of your 2D1N Sepilok and Kinabatangan River Sandakan tour, a wonderful way to enjoy nature.

Day 2~ Kinabatangan River Cruise

Next, you’ll begin your day with the gentle sounds of birds and gibbons at dawn. Furthermore, this peaceful wake-up call marks the start of your adventure. At 6:00 AM, we embark on a one-hour morning cruise along the Kinabatangan River. Then, during the cruise, keep an eye out for wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, orangutans, and colorful birds, all searching for their breakfast. As well, early mornings are the best time to spot these animals in action.

After the cruise, we’ll return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast. Besides, this is your time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. At 9:00 AM, we’ll head to the famous Gomantong Caves, known for bird nest harvesting. Also, the tour lasts about one hour, and you’ll walk through the caves while learning about their fascinating history and significance.

Afterward, we’ll return to Sandakan for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Then, we’ll set off on a city tour, visiting key landmarks like the Puh Jih Shih Temple, the WW2 Memorial Park, St. Michael’s Church, and Agnes Keith’s House. You’ll also have time to explore the central market and soak in the local culture.

Finally, we’ll transfer you to your hotel or Sandakan Airport, marking the end of your 2D1N Sepilok and Kinabatangan River Sandakan adventure.

As you know in Sabah there are Proboscis or Long-nose monkey species that exist only in the Borneo region, including in Sabah. Proboscis monkeys are among animals protected under IUCN.

For those of you who like to see Proboscis monkeys, in Sabah there are several places you can visit to see the habitat of this long-nosed monkey. If you are in Kota Kinabalu, you can visit the Sabah Zoo at Lok Lawi Wildlife Park to view Proboscis monkeys and a variety of animals.

However, most international tourists prefer to see Proboscis monkeys in their own habitat habitat in mangrove forests. In Sabah there are many mangrove forests living in this Proboscis monkey habitat. This Proboscis monkey will be on the banks of the river and around the group. Day trip to kawa kawa proboscis monkeys and fireflies . Pick up at 1400 hours from your Hotel(kota Kinabalu Area), proceed to city mosque to take picture it’s will take approximately 15 minute from town driver to the north, we will spend half an hours to see the most spectacular mosque in town we call city mosque or floating mosque.

Then, we continue the journey to Kawa – Kawa village and it’s self will take one hour and half to be reach at the local restaurant, and begin the tour at 1630 hours welcoming drink and some light local traditional refreshment will be serve , the sightseeing tour around the Mangrove river cruise begin and the tour will take you to see wildlife in mangrove such Proboscis Monkey , Macaques , Egret bird and many more.

At 1730 hours back to the jetty and dinner will be serve there later we will bring you to enjoy the sunset at the beach. If weather permitted between 1800 – 1700 hours , you will able to see firefly during nighttime at the nanamun mangrove area. Once done you will be brought back to your hotel respectively.
